What do I Want? Where do I Stand?
http://www.offsite.org.nz/exhibition-info/
Hosted in an abandoned dwelling at 223 Symonds Street, Auckland ‘What do I want Where do I stand’ was an exhibition held in September 2016 by 4th year and Honours students from Elam School of Fine Arts, University of Auckland.
A further component of the exhibition named ‘Offsite’ was also created and can be viewed as an online archive, hosting a number of art works and projects (listed under WORKS).
The following installation was my contribution to the collective groups’ exhibition titled:
‘Un-balanced’ like a ‘Square Peg in a Round Hole’ (2016) – Fraternal Twins
Intangible expressions of
empty space
Trying to make the invisible-visible
in form
In-between is the presence of
the ‘other’
Yet the reflection subdued
That sense of some thing
missing
Unbalanced, like a square peg
in a round hole.
[Poem by the Artist.]

Square Peg in a Round Hole
In this installation, the rigid geometry of the square and the soft void of the circle meet in quiet confrontation. Each panel holds absence as form—edges and curves negotiating identity and belonging within confined space.
The work reflects the human condition: the tension of trying to fit into frameworks that deny our natural shape, the silent distortion of self to belong, to be seen, to take up space without friction.
Here, balance is precarious yet deliberate—standing blocks hold the forms in fragile compromise. We witness the stubborn beauty of imperfection, of difference, and the quiet resilience of what refuses to fit neatly inside expectation
